MS. WHEELCHAIR TENNESSEE SEEKING CONTESTANTS FOR PAGEANT

Chattanooga, TN – Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee, Inc. is seeking contestants who are interested in competing for the title of Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2019. The statewide pageant will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Chattanooga on September 28-30, 2018.

Although the contestants are showcased in a pageant format, physical beauty is not judged. Instead, Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee, Inc. and Ms. Wheelchair America, Inc. focus on recognizing the accomplishments and achievements of women who are wheelchair mobile.  Judges are seeking the most articulate contestant that can be a spokeswoman for individuals with disabilities across the state of Tennessee.

The weekend competition requires contestants to demonstrate an ability to advocate for individuals with disabilities. Contestants will be judged through a series of interviews, participation in pageant workshops, their presence and public poise, and the substance of their platform speech.

In order to compete in the Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee Pageant, contestants must live in the state of Tennessee, be at least 21 years of age, and use a wheelchair for 100 percent of community mobility. Individuals who compete in the pageant will also be asked to pay a $300.00 entry fee which includes a two night hotel stay and meals for the contestant and one companion.

Women who are interested in competing for the title of Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2019 can request an application by emailing State Coordinator Bliss Welch at [email protected]. The entry fee and all applications must be submitted by August 15, 2018.

The pageant weekend will begin on Friday evening, September 28, 2018, with contestants attending a dinner and participating in various workshops.

On Saturday, September 29, 2018, workshops will run from 8:00 a.m. until  noon and then multiple rounds of judging sessions will take place in the afternoon. The general public and media are invited to attend the Crowning Ceremony starting at 6:00 p.m. Programs and Dress Up Crowns are available for purchase while admission to the event is free. During the Crowning Ceremony, guests will learn the history of the Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee program, will hear the contestants give platform speeches and answer on-stage questions presented by the judges, and witness the crowning of the new titleholder.

The contestant named Ms. Wheelchair Tennessee 2019 will serve as a spokeswoman throughout the state where she can discuss awareness, acceptance, and understanding of disabilities to the general public. She will have the opportunity to travel across the state, visit advocacy groups, make public appearances, including parades, and is available to conduct interviews. The 2019 state titleholder will also represent the state of Tennessee in the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant in Little Rock, AR, in July 2019.
